Scopri, (meaning to discover or find out in Italian) a newcomer to Carlton serves creative Italian cuisine. But this is to be expected, given the chef comes from the well credentialed Svago in Kew and prior to that the Grand in Richmond.
Service in this relatively spartan dining space, was warm, friendly and very attentive. The wine list reflected a good mix of australian and italian varietals and the menu was extensive with antipasta, pasta, mains and desserts (not the small plate style menu of Svago’s).
The food was excellent. The wagyu bresola was a delight – they do thier own bresola in the kitchen. The mains were imaginative and certainly not the clichéd Italian fare you sometimes find in this part of Melbourne. The crumbed veal (crisp outside but pink inside), moistened with a dollop of decadent burrata cheese, was exquisite and plated with a lovely moist eggplant milanese. The melt in the mouth lamb done with eggwash of perorino and parsley, served with polenta wedges was different but equally good. Well done to this creative newcomer!
