Spawned from the Jacques Reymond family (his kids), Bistro Gitan joins the large number of French eateries springing up all over Melbourne – clearly the Melbourne public is in love again with French food. Gitan named after the Gypsys of in and around France, this phenomenally successful bistro is now where the Fawkner Club – where the rather forgettable pub on ToorakRoad West in Melbourne once was.
Bistro Gitan provides a simple French family style menu (with some Spanish gypsy influence) that bistros are well known for. This is a ‘bookings are essential’ restaurant, the bar off the side is a great cosy space in the winter with its fireplace even if you wish to pop in just for a pre-dinner drink.
The menu is innovative – with lots to choose from the petite, moyen, and plat principal sections of the menu. The wine list is well picked.
The service is brisk and knowledgeable with the Reymond offspring busy tending to their guests
