6 years and still going strong, this wonderfully understated wine bar exudes european character and charm – the rustic wooden doors belies the sophistication of the space beyond, complete with a wall of European wines on one side and a busy bar on the other, overlooked by a Daily Specials chalk board (changes daily). In addition to the daily specials is a simple but sophisticated bar menu of chaccaturie, duck parfait, home made terrine, jamon serrano, and so on.
Beyond the bar space is a room that takes the spill-over crowd (very busy towards the end of the week) divided by a wooden counter table with high stools. Wooden wine crates and boxes spill onto the floor to give this room a carefree charm.
The owners have stuck to a formula that appeals to a sophisticated style and pallette, as is evidenced by the European Restaurant next door that is now doing its second decade (a great lunch place), and the more recent Siglo Bar on the rooftop with memorable rooftop views of the parliament precinct and beyond (a great summer place).
The wines by the glass are well chosen and of course there’s the wall of wine to choose the right (French or Italian) bottle from!
